This morning we set the alarm for 7am. I was actually up earlier than that since I went to bed at 10. Nevertheless, I dozed till about 6:30. We packed our bags and then headed out in search of bfast, and even more importantly, WiFi. We ended up going to the same place we had breakfast at yesterday. I was able to submit 3 or 4 blog posts finally! The bfast was good too! I had pancakes. Sounds simple but they were succulent! They had syrup and blueberries and mascarpone cheese. Mmmm. Delish!
We returned to the hotel around 8:45am. At around 9am we boarded the bus for a 2 and 1/2 hr ride to Brisbane. On the way we stopped in a little town called Tweed. We stopped at a lookout place called Point Danger where you could see the Sunshine Coast across the water. This was not what I expected. The Sunshine Coast is actually a sea-side town filled with high-rise buildings and that's pretty much all we could see in the distance. Ironically too, it was anything but sunny...at least where we were. Windy and cool.
We were back on the bus about 10am. We drove for another couple of hours and entered a new state (Queensland). The time went back an hour. At approximately noon we arrived at the airport in Brisbane. We checked in for a 1:40pm flight to Proserpine. I've never even heard of this place but its on the way to Daydream Island apparently! Airport checkin was pretty smooth and I grabbed lunch at a cafe while I waited...a lentil salad. I'm sooo over fried foods! I had some free WiFi at the airport so I took advantage and tried to catch up in Facebook. Its amazing what you miss!
Flight was pretty standard and we landed in Proserpine around 3:15pm. It was muggy and hot! We gathered our things and then took a bus to the ferry terminal, which was near Airlie. We were officially in the Whitsunday Islands by this point and it was beautiful. Sunny and hot and looked like we were somewhere in the Caribbean.
At 5pm we boarded the ferry to take us to Daydream Island. It was definitely a day of travel! The ferry ride was only 15 min but we came up to this beautiful little resort island...I couldn't believe this was our home for the night. It seemed so remote although it wasn't far from the mainland. We checked in to the Daydream Island Resort and Spa. It was a full-on resort...they greeted us with a cocktail and a shell necklace. After a brief introduction we were showed to our rooms. Really nice room. Me and Mary decided to take a walk around. Great views of the ocean as the resort is right on the water. There were several pools and several resident kangaroos hopping around too! I wanted to stay forever.
We stopped in at one of the restaurants and had a cocktail by the ocean...it was a $15 cocktail but who's counting? At about 7pm we went back to the room. I grabbed a quick shower and then we met the group back at the restaurant (The Mermaid) for a 7:30 dinner. I got the "Tasmanian Salmon". It was served on truffle mashed potatoes :p. The serving was small...especially for the price but it was delicious. This dinner was covered by the tour which was nice.
We left the restaurant around 9:30pm and then went to the lobby to use the free WiFi. Yay! I realize I sound like a WiFi freak but it just seems to be such a luxury in this country. And when you get it you usually have a time limit or a data limit that doesn't allow you to accomplish much.
The rest of the evening was spent relaxing, blogging, sorting thru pics and listening to musak in the lobby. It was sooo quiet at the resort...It seemed like there there were only about 10 guests aside from our group. It was so nice and relaxing and an unexpected but welcomed surprise to the trip. Sometimes it pays not to read the itinerary fully!
Until next time friends...
